What’s Now vs. What’s Next, or, Why Myrth is Shifting Course — Myrth

A couple of months ago, when the Covid-19 outbreak was first starting to shut down conferences around the world, Emma attended Wisdom 2.0’s online conference where one of the panels involved discussion of dealing with what’s happening now versus dealing with what’s coming next.

In other words, it looked at the two main categories of problems that companies try to solve: problems that are immediate, directly in front of us, and urgent, versus the problems that come afterward, which may be a little harder to predict, will lack the same sense of urgency right now but will be just as urgent when they arrive, and may require more planning to manage them successfully.

Emma was fascinated by the concept and realized there are going to be some serious problems coming in the future that Myrth is uniquely positioned to help address.

Specifically, she realized that the widespread and long-lasting shutdowns were going to have severe economic consequences that will have a long-term impact on our job market. There are going to be more people out of work than ever before, for longer than before, and fighting for fewer jobs available than there were before.

The Myrth team is no stranger to these major life transitions, and the work we’ve been doing over the last year has helped solidify some of our thoughts about how best to cope with them. We realized that all of our talk about self-care, resilience, digital wellness, and so forth is all uniquely positioned to help a newly jobless population navigate that scary transition and come through it as smoothly as possible.

So we are going to be narrowing our focus over the next few months. There are a lot of people working to deal with what’s happening right now because of the Covid-19 pandemic. We want to help people get ready for what’s coming next.

In practical terms, that means you’ll see some shift in the content we post. We’ll still be bringing you lots of helpful information about all of our favorite topics, but now, we’ll be focusing a little more on how those issues are specifically related to resilience in a crisis situation, transitioning careers, and coping with effects of short-term and long-term unemployment.

What does that mean for you? Well, it depends on what you’re looking for. If you are still interested in digital wellness, social connection, mindfulness, and more, we hope you’ll still enjoy hanging out with us, because that will continue to be the main focus of our work. But if you are one of the many people who may be experiencing significant life changes in the coming months or years, we hope some of the unique content we are able to provide here will be even more closely tailored to your needs.

We wish you health, safety, and good luck in the coming months, and we look forward to having productive conversations with you.

Are you coping with a major life change right now? What’s been most difficult about it for you? Drop a comment below, and we’ll work to make sure we have a future post about the issue.
